Ancient Wisdom For Today | Ecclesiastes 2
“Fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7)
Solomon looked for life in pleasure, wisdom, and work. He tried hedonism, achievements and possessions, denying himself no pleasure. Yet when he looked at everything, it was all meaningless—like chasing the wind. Solomon found that human wisdom is better than foolishness, but it has limits because it cannot fix the broken world and the wise and foolish have the same fate, death. Solomon hated all his hard work because it must be left to others. The conclusion: enjoy food and drink and find satisfaction in work—these are from the hand of God. Don’t look for life in the world, but find your life in God and give thanks for the simple pleasures of life.
Solomon chased pleasure, wisdom, and work… but in the end it was all “meaningless—like chasing the wind.”
